It shows that manufacturing has geared up as they see a light at the end of the dark tunnel. The index should remain strong over the  next few months as the new orders and backlog indexes posted significant gains.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the prices paid for inputs index increased from 61.5 to 70.0.  While consumer demand has started to pick up, as seen by the new orders index  increasing to 65.9 from 64.8, it will be difficult for manufacturers to pass on  the higher prices.
