It was estimated that it would increase to 24 from 23.51. The actual number was disappointing 2.55. (<em>Yes the decimal is in the correct place<\/em>) This is showing an almost stoppage of production in the region as opposed to <!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/andrewhorowitz\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6412  alignright\" title=\"andrew_on_twitter\" src=\"https:\/\/thedisciplinedinvestor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/andrew_on_twitter-1.jpg\" alt=\"andrew_on_twitter\" width=\"120\" height=\"36\" \/><\/a>last month. The most recent Richmond Fed also came in lower than expected and on the 17th of this month we will see if the Philly Fed provides a final confirmation of the reversal in manufacturing and business conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thedisciplinedinvestor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Empire-20091215-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6676 aligncenter\" title=\"Empire 20091215\" src=\"https:\/\/thedisciplinedinvestor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Empire-20091215-1.jpg\" alt=\"Empire 20091215\" width=\"599\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More interesting was the Producers Price Index that came in much hotter than anticipated. We look to this as a precursor to inflation as it provides us the monthly information of the prices for goods at the wholesale level.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thedisciplinedinvestor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/PPI-Breakdown-20091215-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6672 aligncenter\" title=\"PPI Breakdown 20091215\" src=\"https:\/\/thedisciplinedinvestor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/PPI-Breakdown-20091215-1.jpg\" alt=\"PPI Breakdown 20091215\" width=\"607\" height=\"247\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Expectations were for a 0.8% increase on a Month-over-month basis. The actual number was 1.8%.
