Of course it is okay for a country to help out their own, but this is a blatant foul. Someone should call a <!--more-->penalty on Japan for this move.<a href=\"https:\/\/thedisciplinedinvestor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/cash-for-clunkers-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6554\" title=\"cash-for-clunkers\" src=\"https:\/\/thedisciplinedinvestor.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/cash-for-clunkers-1.jpg\" alt=\"cash-for-clunkers\" width=\"165\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is no doubt, this is protectionism at its best (worst). Now we will need to keep on the watch as to what the U.S. response will be.<\/p>\n<p>What are your thoughts? Should we levy additional taxes on Japanese cares?<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\"><strong>Bloomberg.com<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Japan\u2018s version of a \u201ccash for clunkers\u201d\u009d program designed to spur automobile sales discriminates against imported vehicles, Ford Motor Co., General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC said today. Japan\u2018s effort \u201coverwhelmingly benefits the purchase of domestic vehicles over imported ones by making the vast majority of imports ineligible for the program\u2018s significant tax cut benefit,\u201d\u009d the auto companies wrote in a letter to the U.S. Trade Representative\u2018s office today.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If I am reading this correctly, it flies in the face of what actually occurred with the U.S. version of the program. A total of over $2 billion was doled out by the U.S. taxpayer and \u00a0 the following were the top cars sold through the program. (color coded \u00a0 &#8211; <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Orange is Foreign<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Green is Domestic<\/strong><\/span> manufacturers)<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">1. Toyota Corolla<br \/>\n2. Honda Civic<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #008000;\">3. Ford Focus<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">4. Toyota Camry<br \/>\n5.
